Everyone handles their high a bit differently. Some like to veg out on the couch, others like to take advantage of the increased creativity and produce art and still others like to engage in more physical activities.
However you choose to ride your high, we want you to get the best experience possible. Selecting the right cannabis strain to pair with your anticipated activity can make a huge difference. Enter Elyon and our new Hightivities segment. Read on for recommondations for activities and what strain(s) to consume to get the most out of them.
Peak High
There is nothing quite like the majesty of the outdoors. And here in Sonoma County we are blessed with a lot of scenic spaces. No matter where you are, hiking under the influence (aka green blazing) can be extremely rewarding. But you definitely need to choose your strain carefully. You don’t want to consume something that will make you want a couch instead of awe-inspiring views.
Green blazing can give you a new appreciation for nature and an extra boost of energy to feel good throughout your hike, no matter what difficulty level you endeavor to undertake. Get ready to feel a dazzling explosion of sun on your skin.
How to Activate Your Inner Energizer Bunny
For a gentle stroll: Trifi Cookies
This hybrid is the perfect strain for easy hikes. While it’s not quite as energizing as some, Trifi Cookies will give you a relaxed body high without being too sedative, all while keeping your mind alert. Cue butterfly catching, awesome cloud formations and marching two by two with the ants.
Blazing new heights: Sour Diesel
Looking for something a little more extreme? Sour Diesel is a fast-acting, sativa dominant strain that gives you an energetic body buzz. With a euphoric, dreamy head-high, you’ll be able to appreciate your surroundings instead of focusing on how many miles you have to go. Just grab the gorp and you’ll be ready to take on any trail.
Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Kortum Trail (Sonoma Coast)
While parts of the Kortum Trail may not be considered a gentle stroll, most of this coastal hike is flat and covered in boardwalks. It can be over eight miles roundtrip but frequent parking lots allow you to start and segment the trail as you please. Sweeping views of the Sonoma Coast and beach access along the way make this hike a real trip.
Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve (Mendocino)
Looking for more of a tree hugger vibe? Montgomery Woods is your park. Soaring redwoods surround you on all sides of this two mile hike. There is a short, steep climb to enter the heart of the park but it’s over as fast as you can say “the most high.” You can check babbling creeks, fern forests and giant groves off your green blazing bucket list.

Sonoma Mountain – Jack London State Park (Sonoma Valley)
Besides the fact that Jack London was a consumer of “hashish,” this is one of the most beloved parks in Sonoma County and well worth exploring. The eight mile trek to the top of the mountain is the most difficult trail in the park, but also the most rewarding. Views from the summit stretch for miles and you can practically see all of Sonoma. Vroom vroom.
Pack it In, Pack it Out
As with all hightivities, we urge caution and safety. Please make sure that you are aware of your surroundings and lighting up in the most responsible way possible. Leave no trace and be conscious of fire risk. Drink lots of water and be courteous to those around you.
Need to relax after a long day on the trail? Reward yourself with some Lava Cake and let all your aches melt away.
