Chronic Cocktails: The Dank & Dirty Martini

I’m in the mood to get dirty…with my martini, that is. The dirty martini isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a salty, dry cocktail that definitely packs a punch. Shake (not stir) in a cannabis infusion and you’ve got a drink even James Bond would be envious of.

A-Tincture, A-Tasket

The martini is a subtle art. Of course, it’s made a bit more obvious with the introduction of olive brine. But you want your infusion to be as unobtrusive as possible. There’s no citrus or sugar to mask the flavor of weed. Infused simple syrup is out of the question, as it’s not an ingredient and simple syrup can be the opposite of subtle. We could have gone straight to the source and infused the gin (or vodka, your choice) but that can also impart a little more cannabis flavor than we’re looking for.

The answer, then? A tincture. Tinctures are easy to make and, just like martinis, pack a big punch in a little package. You can make an oil-based tincture or an alcohol-based one. Because we’re already playing with alcohol, we chose to stay on theme and made an alcohol-based tincture. The high also tends to hit you faster and stronger than with oil-based ones. And, as always, we are trying to get you The Most High. As we said, it’s easy to make. First you need to decarb a full ⅛ of cannabis. Grind it up and mix it in with 3 oz of high-proof alcohol. Everclear is a good choice. Now, sit it and forget it. Store it in a cool, dark spot for a week or two. Don’t totally forget it, it’s good to shake it up every once in a while. Then all you need to do is strain it and it’s ready.

Spicy AF

Speaking of strain(s), this is where we got a little less subtle and a lot more funky. We chose GMO. GMO (sometimes called GMO Cookies or Garlic Cookies) is an indica-dominant cross between Chemdawg and GSC. It’s gassy, spicy aromas pair perfectly with the flavors of the martini. This is also why we chose to make our martini with gin. The underlying earthy flavors of GMO mirror the herbaceous flavors of gin. Like the dirty martini itself, GMO is not for the faint of heart. It’s got high levels of THC and can leave you highly sedated. It still gives you a buzzy, uplifting mind boost so you’ll be vibin’ as if you were in the swankiest, darket, moodiest martini bar around.

The Elyon Dank & Dirty Martini

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ ounces gin (or vodka)
  • ½ ounce dry vermouth
  • ½ ounce olive brine
  • ½ tsp Elyon GMO tincture (apprx. 2.5 milliliters)
  • Garnish: 2 to 4 olives

Directions:

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass, garnish and enjoy!

Shaken, Not Stirred

If James Bond chooses to have his martini shaken, so will we. But it’s also probably better to shake the cocktail to fully integrate the tincture into the drink. Feel free to adjust the amount of tincture to better suit your tolerance levels. Shake it up and drink it down, it’s time to get dank and dirty.
